99 front electric window problem - ShineOnYouCrazyDiamond
I have a 1999 T reg Vectra.

The drivers side electric window is playing up. When I push the button the window will go down about 4 inches then ping up and down quickly a few times (the quick up and down is only a cm or so). I then have to let go of the button, press again and then the window will carry on down juddering all the way. If I shut it it will judder all the way until close.
Passenger side works fine.

Anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it?

Thanks for any help.

Firstly I would lube the rubber channels each end of the glass .This should improve the movement of the glass. Also ,does the glass rise and fall squarely in the door frame?

My son had a similar problem with his T reg Vectra when he first bought it last year.

I greased the channels for him using silicon grease (you can buy a small tub at most plumbers merchants), operated the window up and down a few times to work the grease in. Gave it one final greasing just for luck! and it's worked fine ever since.

Thanks for the help.

The window seems to be sitting and running straight.

Thank you I had been having an issue with my drivers window. After reading this I used WD40 Specialist silicone lubricant and sprayed from the open window down the sides and after working the grease into the runners it is now fixed.

My window always went down fine but when coming up it would get half way and then open again. I originally thought it was an electrical problem! The only way I could get it to go up was keep tapping the switch until it reached the top.

The reason it pings up & down is probably because the anti-pinch mechanism thinks there is something in the way so it gets confused. As suggested the guides need lubrication. Also I've read that dropping the window all the way down & holding window button "on" for a couple of seconds & repeating for the fully up position resets the up & down positions within the motor electronics.

Hi, I have a vectra also but the problem i'm having is that the window on the passenger side is coming away from the rubber - so basically it is going up at an angle and for it to go up properly someone has to hold the window into the rubber seal while someone else powers the switch.

Someone maneitoned to me it might be my guiders. Anyway hope I have explained this right! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Stuart

As I said earlier my son had a similar problem with his T reg Vectra when he first bought it last year. The window wasn't staying in the channel. Fortunately lubrication solved the problem. I greased the channels for him using silicon grease, the sort you can buy in small tubs at most plumbers merchants), operated the window up and down a few times to work the grease in. Gave it one final greasing just for luck! and it's worked fine ever since.

If that doesn't work for you then I guess it'll need the door card off to see what is going on where the glass is held at the bottom of it.

Surely a silicon based spray that doesn't leave any sticky residue for dirt/dust to adhere to would be better than silicon grease? Once the dirt/dust builds up, then you'll be back to square one again.

The grease works, and lasts longer. Used sensibly it doesn't make a mess.
