Nissan Qashqai (2007 - ) - Any known problems?

Hello all.

My dad's thinking of changing his Toyota Corolla for a new Nissan Quashqai. Does anyone know if the 1.6litre petrol engine is a Nissan or a Renault engine and whether it has any known problems? I know it's still very new but are there any other known problems with this vehicle?

I have read HJ's CBC breakdown. I'm hoping the horror story told there is down to pre-production / early production quality control issues that are now sorted out.

i have the note with their 1.6 petrol and its very harsh but fairly perky. ive driven all the quashqai models and all are underpowered and thirsty and the interior is a little drab.

How strange to move away from a top ranking manufacturer to another, say ,lesser one, especially as the resale of the 'other' do not seem so high as Toyota.
Still, it is wonderful to have choice- but costly to make mistakes.
