partner's sons car a Suzuki Swift CV joint is knocking on full lock I'm going to replace asap he wants to know should this fail the mot? i say not there is no real play to the shaft etc,
Are these like most cv joints like vx held on with the circlip & knock off??

but i suspect its the old type with snooker beize for carpets?
my approach?
i would get a full driveshaft from a breaker ,expected price? £40 tops + postage

Assuming its the old 1000cc Swift (I am sure it will be), then yes, you can knock the old joint off and put a new one on. They are about £30 trade priced from my local factor - no idea of retail, but don't pay more than £45.
I like BB's idea of a complete s/hand shaft for under £40 - if you can find one. There are two different types of end, so make sure you get the right one.
If shaft is not sloppy in the joint then it should pass MoT.

I always send a photo when i make an online request,the brilliance of the internet i think,
at one time you could spend all day ringing or calling at bone yards,now i just tabulate away on the old keyboard,much more civilised and you dont get cut, get bitten by rabid dogs, or get punctures in your wheels as you drive over old talbots and simca bits that have been used as car park tarmac substitute.
