I have a Chamberlain Liftmaster Proffessional door opener which is noisy and due to die, can anyone reccomend a (Power operated) replacement. I would not dare to ask SWMBO to get out in the rain to open the door. I would then stay dry as we have access into the house.

I converted an canopy type garage door to an automatic opener using a Wickes heavy duty kit, very easy to install and instructions were clear.
It's been in 6 years and never given any trouble, however, it's only a smallish door and the HD unit can handle double doors but for another £50 it's probably worth it.
Only one remote opener but these are available on special order and you can wire in a keyed switch very easily.

Thanks for the responce folks, the Wickes unit looks like an updated version of the one I have fitted. As I have several remote controls and hard wired controls I am looking for a direct replacement of my obsolete unit, fortunatly it uses the current 433mhz radio remote control system.

Have a look at Novoferm and Hormann. I've just got a Novoferm door with a Hormann motor. I think both Novoferm and Hormann are a similar quality. Novoferm did a better size for my garage, but I prefered the Hormann motor. It was all fitted and supplied by a local company and it seems to work well.
Before you buy, it may be worth checking how much room you will gain or loose. I did loose a few centimeters, but if a car won't get through the door I don't think I'd be able to open the doors in the garage anyway.

Is the current one manual then? Why not buy a Chamberlain remote controlled one? I've had one for 3 years and it has worked fine. The one in my BIL's house is 6 years old, also works fine!

We had a Securaglide fitted at our last house & will (eventually) have one here, too.
It's a fully insulated roller shutter unit, really quiet & 2year warranty IIRC, on the door, longer on the motor.

I like our Henderson Screwdrive, but it appears that screw operated openers are no longer made. Unless anyone knows different .........
