2002 1.3 vvti - noisy engine under load when cold - exmttech
My 2002 yaris verso is very noisy under load from cold - it actually sounds like heavy pinking and seems to go when the engine is hot. There are no em lights showing. I have been told that it might be the catalytic converter. any ideas?

my wife has a 2002 verso [automatic], which seems to 'pink' when cold. The engine warning light has come on & has been reset twice, but still the same noise, which goes when warm. Have you discovered anything ?

The Wife's Daihatsu Sirion (same family of engine) is very noisy when cold especially when weather near freezing, Just a symptom of the exaggerated clearances when so cold. As soon as it has some temperature in it it's quite quiet for a little sewing machine, also as the interior warms up all the trim stops rattling!
