I need to fit a new alarm siren unit to my factory fitted W-reg Astra SRi. Is there any particular set-up / connection procedures I need to be aware of please?
If I don't fit a new siren unit and the old one is left permanently disconnected, will the rest of the alarm and immobiliser system still function correctly.
Any advice please, Thanks, Vinnie.

Im pretty sure these boxes need to be working and the fault is usually the internal battery has come to the end of its working life, apparently .
If you can take the box apart locate the soldered in battery get the details off it and locate an appropiate new one from somewhere like maplins

The alarm siren is a common failure on these (and most vauxhalls). It is located in the nearside front wing behind the plastic stone sheild adjacent to the indicator repeater lamp.I would leave it disconnected as this does not affect the operation of the immobiliser or anything else .Also on a lot of cars there is an extra alarm horn sounder up near the wiper motor.hth

I think I'm right in saying that if you fit a new alarm unit, you will need to have it coded to the car by a Tech2 code reader.
As bellboy mentions, you can change the batteries (they used to be available from www.cellpacksolutions.com - 2 x NC-M120 {3.6v} ) but their stock was getting quite low and may well have now run out - in which case you could try googling NC-M120.
Details of how to change the sounder / or the batteries here:-

The internal battery specification varies and getting the case watertight after you've cut it open (it's a sealed unit) can be tricky.
Get a new powersounder, about £55. Turn ignition on, don't start engine. Remove powersounder from left hand wheelarch, behind trim panel. Refit new powersounder. Switch off ignition.
If the ignition is on all the time during replacement, the new powersounder doesn't have to be "coded" at a dealers.
I have to do mine every two years but most seem to last longer than that.

The powersounder on my estate Astra was under the bonnet, by the leafcatcher grill, not in the wheelarch.
