i have a hole in the side of backbox (about the size of a one pence coin), if i block/fill this hole in with something like exhaust assy paste, will it still cause my car to fail its mot?

Hi there, Puggered, As long as you seal it properly, and it is not blowing, then it should not fail on that point, Cheers, Graham.

I got a Rover 200 through that I was selling on once with a beer can with the ends cut off and split down one side, popped around the exhaust, gun gummed, and then U-clamped at either end. It wasn't blowing, and system wasn't insecure, hence a pass. The tester had a good chuckle at it actually. As he said, probably a better repair than one of those wrap around bandage kits.
I saw the guy I sold it to a year or so later, and he reckoned it hadn't gone.
This was a 1p sized hole in a pipe rather than a silencer. Test only looks at the security of the system, and for the presence of leaks.
Cheers

My Focus passed with a bigger hole than that because it was only in the outer skin of a double-skinned silencer.
