I have a citroen saxo 1.1i. Its over revving and bunny hopping - sonetimes! When I'm waiting at traffic lights the engine revs itself a few times and then the revs stay high. It will also loose speed when it should be constant and then kicks back in again. I would love some ideas before I pay a fortune at the garage. The petrol filter has aleady been changed. Thanks.

Coolant temp sensor in the top of the thermostat housing likely culprit. May be cheaper from peugeot. Very common problem. Unfortunately one of many common problems, other things to check is that your car has the later modified coil pack (externally the early ones had a square profile with slightly rounded edges, the later ones much more rounded) and the plug into the MAP sensor is secured with an R clip to stop it falling out.

You have described exactly what has happened to my wifes Saxo and at least one other on this site in our cases it was the idle control motor (single point injector). You can check the resistance across the terminals (sorry but it,ll probably take me forever to find the figure). we both purchased our Bosch units from GSF ( about £75 couple of years ago) was a lot dearer at main dealer.

have a scrap of paper with approx 7 ohms between pins 1-6. Then 0 ohms between pins 4-5 then press the button and it should still read 0 ohms. Any resistance will make the ecu think the throttle is still open.

check for air leaks on rubber hoses & oil breather pipe but I suspect it could be idle stepper valve.common fault
