Hi guyz
am new to this
just wanted some information, basically ive recently got a new gearbox put in my audi a3 1.6, and ever since its using alot more petrol, its doin like 45-50 miles to £10. Before the change of the gearbox it was easily doing 70 miles to £10. i have paid 700 for the new gearbox, and just wanted to know what the problem could be????
a friend of mine said it could be the gear ratio, but the car is doing less revs than it used to with this new gearbox, but i am not that technical so i dont know. so thats why i need some help please.
thanks for ur time

my thought would be a disconnected lambda senser when gearbox fitted
dont understand no mention of the eml light on the dash though
|

wots the eml light????? i had a new lambda sensor put in few months before getting the gearbox in, should i get the lambda senser checked out??/

The new gearbox should be running the same ratios as the old one...
You could drop into local MoT station and ask them to do a quick emissions check (10 mins and £10 should cover it) - that will tell you if the car is running rich - but normally the MIL would inform you (engine malfunction indicator light).

thanks but i got the MOT done 2 weeks ago, and the MOT was carried out after the gearbox was fitted in, the MOT passed with flying colours. the mil light has shown no bad signs. does each gearbox have a different gear ratio???
|
|
Only if it is the WRONG one.

Question the installer, I'm wondering if they have fitted a gear box intended for a diesel. How much lower is the car revving for a particular speed. Regards Peter
|
|
Yep I agree with jc2 & peter I think g/box codes need checking! sounds like its had a diesel ratio diff fitted
|
thanks guyz
well wen i hit 80mph in 5th gear its nearly 3800 revs roughly, but with my old gearbox it was hitting 4000 revs exact. so thers not much of a difference.
the revs are slightly lower in all gears as compared to my old gearbox

This difference is not enough to cause you such a harsh fuel problem, however if does appear to be the wrong gear box. Get the garage to check the code on the box and get it recorded you have a problem. Get them the check the ECU for reported errors at their cost not yours. Regards Peter
