- Scraped about 4cm of heavy wet snow off the windscreen this morning, then turned the wipers on. One of them got jammed on the compacted snow at the base of the windscreen, and after a couple of seconds and a dull thud... wipers kaput! Never happened to me before in any other car, but beware in case the same happens to you! I blame it on these new-fangled lightweight blade-only wipers that modern cars seem to have had since 2003 onwards...
30 mile drive on wet roads to the garage wasn't fun. But hey, the dealer fixed them for FREE! (Must have been a half-hours labour). So even (snow) clouds have a silver lining...

What did it do? Blow the fuse? What's the car?
|
Nick What's the car?
At a guess, either a Volvo V50 ( www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?m=565287...e )
"No complaints or faults in 6mths/7k miles" - until now ;o)
or a Fiat Panda (according to his profile.)

- A Volvo V50. My fault, not really the car's, DD :-)
Fuse and electric motor were fine. Some kind of spring or something just popped and the wipers went all slack. Fixed with pliers and spanners!
Snowing again today - I'm not even going to go near the car this time!

Isn't there supposed to be a circuit breaker to stop the mechanism damaging itself like this? Anyway, the vernal equinox is here, the clocks go forward this weekend and none of this winter stuff matters again till October!

Far more importantly than that - the blackthorn flowering is nearly over. [At least down here.]
Winter's never finished with us until we're through "Blackthorn Winter."

"the clocks go forward this weekend"
Is that an hour longer in bed or an hour less?
|
|
An hour less, but it's a sacrifice well worth making for all those long, sunlit evenings to come.
|
"..those long, sunlit evenings to come."
The evenings won't really change - it's just the clocks... :-)

A bit late for Nick, perhaps, but Lidl currently have wiper sets for £3.99. Not a huge range of sizes, but enough for most cars with the standard hook fitting, and I am impressed with the quality so far.
