Nissan 350Z - mrmender
Could anyone tell me if the engine is a Renault or Nissan unit?
Thanks

I believe its a variant of the Nissan VQ-series, introduced around 1995 and an excellent motor.

VQ35HR is the current engine.

Nissan updated the VQ line for 2007. The 3.5 L VQ35HR (for "high revolution" or "high response"). It produces 315 PS @6800 rpm and 358 nm @4800 rpm and compression ratio is 10.6:1. It has continuously variable valve timing control (CVTC) with hydraulic on intake cam and electromagnetic on exhaust cam and double overhead cam (DOHC) and 4 valves per cylinder with microfinished camshafts. Redline is 7500 rpm. The intake is a high-flow tuned induction system. It has NDIS (Nissan direct ignition system).

Had one of these for a 48 hour test drive. Absolutely intoxicating. I really, really enjoyed it - my wife hated the hard ride, but I loved it. It is a car that encourages you to drive fast. Passenger seat does not adjust for height, and as a consequence it is not great from passenger viewpoint - another complaint from my wife.

Nicely styled cars, well priced, sound wonderful, go well and handle well, but I hate that silly strut brace that ruins any pretence of having a boot; if it really is required on what is a road car not a track car, rather than being a style accessory hinting at motorsport connections, then the car wasn't designed properly in the first place.

My (now sold) QX with the 3.0 VQ engine is now at 180 and sounding just sound.

Alternatively, with the similarly priced Mazda RX-8 coupe I would worry if it would need one or two engine rebuilt to get to 250,000 miles.

Sorry I meant 180,000 miles and in the hand of a friend.

Personally speaking, I couldn't live with the fuel consumption or reliability question marks of the Mazda's rotary engine. The Nissan does everything the Mazda does but with greater simplicity and near-guaranteed longevity and reliability. If the RX8 was as drop dead gorgeous as the RX7 was, I might feel differently though.

Cheers
