Building your own car - possible still? - stunorthants26
Do people still do this? Can anyone still design and build their own car at home?
What regulations are there on this? Obviously not talking about a 4-door saloon with airbags, but what are the minimum requirements for a car these days?
Does keeping the weight and power down make it easier?

I was just curious if, some guy in a shed still can build his own car ( not a kit car ) from scratch?

I was at an Alfa meet a couple of years ago, and someone had built a Ferrari F1 replica type thing, road legal, with an Alfa Boxer engine powering it.
He said it was quite a trial getting them to approve it, and he had to make several modifications at the officials behest, but he did it.

been mentioned before, but there's a chap who drives around Central London in a contraption that looks like an office........complete with water dispenser, computer on a table, lamp etc

turns a few heads.......he must be road legal

i would love to see the look on their faces when he goes for an MOT

As long as you pass the Single Vehicle Approval test SVA you're ok. There must be criteria on their website.
