Lancia Fulvia: are they mad? - stevied
I read recently that the beautiful Fulvia/Fulvietta concept that was exhibited at Geneva a few years back has been canned; excuse being the Barchetta chassis on which it was based doesn't meet modern legislation etc.

Are they insane? Do Lancia WANT to go bankrupt? It's the only model that anyone has enthused about for years, it was absolutely beautiful and there are people (me included) that would have bought one at the drop of a hat. There is no way that they "can't" make it, it's a "won't make".

If they want to be remembered as a company that used to make good cars, and then went bankrupt building people carriers and "luxury" saloons, then they're going the right way. I quite like the little Ypsilon I have to say, it's the most Lancia-ish Lancia there is.

how about they start building the old Fulvia but to modern standards? Probably impossible (modern regs) but I can dream. Now that would SURELY sell?

A friend had a Fulvia 1600HF inherited from his mother, a lady who liked cars and had had some very nice ones in her time. He's an enthusiast and good driver but not mechanical, so sold it when it seemed to be getting rusty. Some time later he saw it advertised and went and looked at it again - must have been agony - with me and my brother-in-law who was raised in a garage. The floor on the driver's side had rusted out and a new bit of metal put in, secured to everyone's amazement with pop rivets. Of course he didn't buy it back. Mechanically it was still fine. Wonderful motor in its day and very very quick.

The concept was, IMHO, an achingly beautiful evolution of the old one.... I know people knock retro cars, but it's so gorgeous... I remember buying a magazine and just drooling.
