Peugeot 106 Noise when moving - acprc
Hi all,

I have a 2002 Peugeot 106 that is making a noise when moving. The noise cuts in at about 40mph. After speaking to my usual mechanic we decided it was one of two things the OSF wheel bearing or driveshaft. Both of these items have now been replaced and the noise is still there.

I am at a bit of a loss as to what else it could be. We are both sure that it is the OSF but neither of the items replaced has cured the fault. Other things that sprins to mind are gearbox, clutch, alternator or we have got the wrong wheel.

Tyres are almost new, clutch and gearbox operate with no problem nice and smoothly.

Any thoughts?

What does the noise sound like?

Tyres are almost new? did the noise start with new tyres? (hint)

Hi both,

Thanks for the replies. My usual mechanic has stood me well for the last few cars i have owned so no reason to doubt him however I know exactly what you mean.

The tyres on the front were rotated from the back when i had new ones fitted. If you follow me. They were rebalanced at the time.

I have looked at the tyres and can't see anything obvious however I may get them checked maybe a weight has come off?

Unlikely to be alternator so I guess if not the tyres it must be another wheel. Gearbox and clutch only done 40K.

Thanks any more thoughts?

Just as an aside noise is a whoop whoop sort of a noise.....

Rub the palm of your hands over these tyres and see if they grab your hand (right to left)
if they do then they have blocked, put them on the other way round, (unless they are rotational ) unlikely on this car mind.

Hi Oldman,

Do you mean across the width of the tyre left to right or round the circumfrence?

Appreciate the help.

Thanks

swop the tyres about to see if the noise moves.

Hi all,

Just to keep you all in the picture and so that anybody else searching can find the answer I have now solved the problem.

Took the OSF wheel off and swapped it with the spare. Noise now gone. No obvious signs of damge to either wheel or tyre and its still balanced correctly.

Thanks for all your comments. much appreciated.
