doesnt matter where you buy one from
you pay for the warranty not the battery

I have had no problem with Halfords products. Their selection cards will give you the correct battery fitting for your car.
Your choice will be the "quality" of the battery, ie standard, premium, gold plated sort of thing. The warranty will vary depending on your choice, 1year, 2 year etc.
The battery should be the same size as the existing one, and the connections should be the same, lug type or post type. I don't know what yours is.
Unless Mercedes are totally out of line with other manufacturers, it will be 12 volts.

There are two different types of charging systems on a "12V" car, one has the traditional type lead acid battery, the other has a calcium? battery and has a charging system that charges at slightly higher voltage.
You need to but the correct type for the charging system fitted ;o)

Go to halfords and get them to fit it, that way you ensure you get the right one and have someone to complain to if they get it wrong.
they only charge a fiver for fitting it.

Try GSF or Euro Car Parts for a Bosch Silver battery.
I think you may be wondering about the amp hours rather than the voltage. My W124 MBs have 74Ah batteries. Yours will be similar but may not be the same, and any MB dealer will be able to tell you, as indeed GSF or Euro should be able to. Best to get the correct spec -- systems might fail if too low, money wasted if too high.

Just to round that off . . . a Bosch Silver is not only top-notch quality but it will also probably be cheaper from GSF or Euro than the equivalent from Halfords. Last time I bought one it was only £53, which was a pleasant surprise -- tens of pounds lower than from an MB dealer and even from Kwik-Fit.
Even for a non-technical person (e.g myself), fitting it is straightforward as long as you do it correctly, and your handbook will tell you how. Do follow the instructions to the letter.

And yesterday I checked in Costco and found racks of Bosch Silvers and confirmation that the correct battery for a 240 is indeed the 74Ah. I think the Costco price beats GSF and Euro, but not by much.
