i recently used a grey scothbright preperation pad to flat parts of a car before painting it.
I have always done this before with perfect results.
this time thought the pads were a new product from a different manufacturer and the results were shocking...tiny scratches everywere which only became visible after clearcoat.
only remedy to start again...obviosly cannot mention the manufacturer on here but if anyone else as had this problem can you let me know., they deny a problem when contacted but i know different and someone on here might be able to help..
thanks TJ

yeah ive found differant brand pads have differant amounts of cut
it will also make a differance what color you've used.....like a darker color would cover scratches and a silver will highlight them

thanks steveo
what you say is true..I have been painting about 15 years.
grey is sold by the manufacturer as a finish pad for basecoat so i used it as such and had to do the job again...nearly a full hit on a new MGF in silver.
the supplier washed his hands of it but i am not satisfied with his attitude..
I was hoping for more specific replies on here as i know of problems locally with this product and am hoping to pursue the matter...
Thanks again

cant see you getting far with it to be honest.....they could argue you didnt put enough base coat on or overthinned it
ive been painting for 16yrs and have found the budget papers and supplys to be more trouble than theyre worth

i think that they are hoping i will just go away.
the rep from the motor factor saw the job and knows what kind of work i do and is prepared to back me up.
also i have the names of half a dozen local garages who have had the same problem with this pad.
The local motor factors have stopped selling it on the basis of me having trouble because of my reputation locally.
this site may not help but you never know.
cheers TJ
