Parakeet droppings - henry k
I happen to be on the flight path from the Esher roost to their feeding areas of the Indian Parakeets.
I recently noticed a shower of small pieces apple skins falling from my apple tree so I took offensive action and they squawked off.
So I deduced they like to peel their fruit.

I have a cherry plum tree under which I have to park in my drive.
Today I spent a considerable time soaking and removing bits of plumb skins from my rear window and boot lid.
I was not amused.

So a warning for those in the London / Surrey / Essex areas.
Beware of Parakeet droppings.

As Richard Littlejohn says: 'you couldn't make it up'...

They are becoming a real pest. My mum lives near Esher RFC, and the sky darkens sometimes when they all take flight

In the early 90's I lived off Liberty Lane in Addlestone, right by the M25, there were only some trees between us and the m/way, well we had a flock of Parakeets living in the trees, noisy things though never had a issue with their droppings, my parents currently live between there and Ottershaw and also regularly have Parakeets overhead.

Cheddar, I think the fact that you did not have issues with bird doodoo on cars in the early 90s is that the makers weren't using water based paints then! Any bidr stuff seems very toxic at any time and in really bad for today's paint and also for convertible's fabric tops.

No more than a minutes walk from where I live. :^D

I think the breed of bird may have a bearing. Pigeon (of the London variety) excrement was quite harsh on the roof of an R5 we had many years ago.

What road are you in then?
Parakeet droppings - mss1tw
Do I dare say?!

I'm off Orchard Way, and I can see Brookhurst Road from my road. (Used to live in Brookhurst too!)

Yes - Trying to turn right is a pain there!

I used to live in Rowhurst Avenue, sold the house over 12 years ago, just the other day I got a notice in the post about it from Runnymede BC (dont know how they found me) regarding Council Tax rebanding, might be a small rebate on the way.

What number?
Parakeet droppings - henry k
What number?

Its almost a Elmbridge get together - but not under the Parakeets flight path!

Just getting back onto topic - if it wasn't for all these cars, we wouldn't be getting the global warming which encourages the parakeets in the first place. They didn't used to live here y'know ;>)

Parakeet droppings - Altea Ego
They would,, they started breeding in the wild here before global warming.

The population has been ticking along for at least 30 or so years but has exploded with the mild winters of the past few years. It's global warming, I tell you. Trust me, I'm a biologist.

and b---- noisy to!

They are descedents of escapees from Shepperton Studios when Humphrey Bogart fimed "The African Queen"

Sits back with arms folded to await the howls of contradiction.
Parakeet droppings - cheddar
Perhaps the decendants of escapees from 57 Acacia Ave Walton on Thames when Mrs Foggins came back from Bingo half cut and drove the Morris Marina 1.3 L (motoring link!) though the back of the prefab garage and into Mr Foggins aviary?

Could be?
Parakeet droppings - Altea Ego
Cheddar - 15 marks deducted - there is no acacia avenue in Walton on Thames

No one is quite sure how the parakeets got here. One story holds that the ancestors of the flock escaped from Shepperton Studios in 1951 during filming of The African Queen with Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn.

Other theories are that they escaped from an aviary during the storm of 1987, or that Jimi Hendrix brought them to Britain and released them to bring some psychedelic colour to London?s skyline, man. In fact, tiny populations of parrots have been spotted in Britain since 1855, but only in recent years have the numbers started to increase sharply.

The explanation is not solely climatic: the ring-necked parakeet lays two eggs a year, has no natural predators in Britain and lives for up to 34 years. The parakeet also seems to reach sexual maturity early, but that?s city life for you. The British parakeet population is now so established, and so well adapted, that even the toughest winter would probably have only limited effect on their numbers
