Scrapping a car and license refund - PeugeotMan
Hi,

I need to scrap my car but would like to claim back the remaining few months tax. How do I go about this?

Will the scrap merchant/breaker take my car without any tax?
Once I transfer the car to them can I still reclaim the tax as the car will be in their name?

"If you pass or sell on the vehicle to someone else for scrap (even a scrap dealer), you should complete the lower tear off part of the Registration Document or the yellow section (V5C/3) of the Registration Certificate and send it to DVLA. The remainder of Registration Document/Certificate should be passed on with the vehicle so that the new keeper can tell us when they have scrapped it."

I delivered my cars to the scrap merchant. He stamped my paperwork. I took the tax disk off the windscreen.

Got the V14 form

Keep copies and then send off the form and tax disk.

You will only get a refund for full months IIRC, not a partially used one.

I think the prior post has minimal relevance to the question, this poster has posted comments about xxxx in several places all on the same day -

- cashing in a tax disc is very easy, last time I did this I obtained the necessary form from the local post office. I was paid for each full month of validity left, so best not submitted on the first day of the month
