Fitting rev counter to mk4 fiesta - gixxerman
I have a mk4 1.3i endura e Fiesta encore I'd like to fit a rev counter (the higher spec clocks) to but I don't know where to take the signal from (the wire that goes to contact number 8 is missing from the multi-plug going into the clocks).

On older Fiestas it is a green wre on the 'e-dis' plug but I don't know where this is on the later version.

Anyone know?

Thanks.

There should be a white/black wire going to either pin 4 or 48 (depending on year) of the Powertrain Control Module, located behind a steel plate behind the passenger side cowl trim cover. This wire also runs to the heater control module behind the radio. Use this, do not use the DIS wire.

Does that mean it worked?

Is it possible to fit a rev counter to a Ka with the same engine? I do not think an alternative Ford set-up will fit the dashboard?

- Surely there are versions of the Ka with your engine that have a rev counter?

Well tbh it really means that you gave me 90% of the answer; for which I am very grateful.

(I just finished with it today.)

The connection to the 'PCM' gave me the proper signal I needed to connection terminal number 8 on the blue connector on the back of the clocks.

On my 1997 motor there doesn't seem to be a white/black wire into the heater control (but I can see on Haynes that there is on the later - post 2000 - ones) so I had to get brave drilling out the rivets on the metal plate over the 'PCM' and weilding the gas soldering iron down there!

Unfortunately that wasn't the end of it, it turned out that the clocks neeed another earth on terminal number 9 on the blue connector as well (it was an easy job to join and run another earthing wire across from the more substantial of the 2 earths on the white connector block).

Once done that was it, everything working good and running nice.

Hopefully that will help others trying to fit the mechanical (Fiesta mk4/Escort mk5) 'full' clocks.

Thanks once again.

The dash fitted to later Kas with the updated Duractec 1.3 is different to that found in earlier cars with the Endura-E, and will not fit (dash moulding is a completely different shape) and I recall hearing that there is no suitable way to use the Ford dash from later Kas even if it would fit (cannot remember the reasons for this though).

It seems the only way would be to purchase an aftermarket tacho, which I'm not keen on...

Sorry his nibs I'm not following you. You have a Ka with a 1.3 Endura-E engine which you want to fit a tacho to, but only the Duractec engine comes with one?

Apologies, I've made a bit of a hash of what I'm trying to say.

I've got an Endura-E engined Ka, to which I would like to attach a tachometer. Later Duractec engined Kas come with a tachometer as far as I am aware, but I do not think the fascia from a Duractec engined Ka will fit the dash of an Endura-E engined Ka, and I have been led to believe that connecting it up would be difficult. It therefore seems the only option is an 'aftermarket' item, which does not appeal to me.

It's one of those things you don't miss until you haven't got it!

All the best.
