Hi All
I have recently bought a Golf GT TDi and the oil could do with being replaced.
Went to the local car parts shop and they have said speak with VW about the oil (is this just a fob off, or is there no other place to get oil for golf GT TDi's??)
Thanks
Rob

You should let members know if it is the old type TDI engine or the newer type TDI PD engine, then I am sure someone will point you in the right direction.

Oh yeah that might help
it's a 1999 on a T plate

hi, have a look at the sticker in the spare wheel well if its a 66 kw(90bhp) or 81 kw (110bhp)non pd tdi engine it requires oil to vw spec 505 00. Easily found in all motor factors. If it is 74 kw (100 bhp), 85 kw (115 bhp),96 kw (130 bhp) or 110 kw ( 150 bhp) its a vw pd engine and requires oil to vw 505 01 spec not as easy to find and alot more expensive( try millers xfe pd which is quite reasonable) . There are quite a few posts on using the wrong oil on these cars. sounds like yours may be non pd as i dont think pd engines were available until 2000 though i could be wrong hope this helps

T is too early for a PD, if its a gt tdi it'll be a 110

Hi all,
When I stuck the reg details for my insurance & the AA car check the car comes up as a Golf GT TDI (115)
Any ideas?
Regards
Rob.

Hi, whats the engine code? Three letters, under the bonnet on a plate, under the boot carpet on a sticker and inside the service book (same sticker as in the boot)
|
The engine codes you are looking for are AJM and ATJ.
The fact that a garage tried to "fob you off" on this is to their credit - the 505.01 oil is an absolute must for these engines

You will probably find some helpful imformation here.

Look for the link "Find out which oil is best for your car"

Hi All
I have looked at the engine number it starts AHF (what does this mean??)
The cover for the engine read VW 505 00
But if the car is registered as a Golf GT Tdi (115) does this means it's a PD engine? (sorry to be a pain, i just don't want to put the wrong stuff in!)
Thanks
Rob

This is a 110HP non-PD engine. I have a V/99 reg GT TDI and the same problem comes up when you look on insurer websites as they seem unable to tell the difference.
The correct oil is the VW 505 00 gloob.

505.00 is a specification number for oil, if this number is stamped on top of the engine I would think this is what you should use, any motor parts shops will sell it especially the people at the link below and there should be a depot near you

Alot of vw's are on a long life scheme so require engine oil that is different to conventional engine oils. Works out at £15/litre from vw.
