My daughter has just had an MOT on her car---£44.15--it failed.
retest £44.15. Took hours getting sorted, garage said problem was getting on to computer. Apparently the days of just turning up at a test station and waiting while the test is done, are gone. Is this just another computer fiasco like the CSA and shortly the NHS thought by this big brother government.

If you shop around you might get it cheaper. The place I use is a testing station only, not a garage. Under the new system they now charge £35, including one free retest if you take it back within 7 days. Which is disappointing, on the old system they only charged £25...

Yep, and in a similar vein you can't just go to the barber's and wait your turn any more either! ;-)

I took my girlfriends car in last week, and they didnt seem to have a problem with the computer, but I know people have reported problems. I was kept waiting nearly an hour, but from me getting there it was 20 mins. before they started the test, and 5 mins. afterwards doing the paperwork. The woman said, "Oh, are you waiting for it?", she expected me to disappear and come back for it later.

:o)

Took SWMBO's Yaris for it's 2nd MOT this Monday to my regular test station. They've employed a new person (probably the owner's wife?) to complete the "paperwork". To their credit it only took 5-10 minutes longer than perhaps usual and I was still out within the hour.

However, all I heard while I was waiting (right next to the computer terminal) was under-the-breath mutterings of "..this is quite concerning..." and "...I can't make sense of this....". Also, for whatever reason they were printing out all the logs from a few days back "just in case". I didn't try and spark up a conversation as they all seemed really stressed out!
