Just in the process of getting mrs andy a Meriva Design, and i see the CD player plays MP3 tracks, which is obviously A Good Thing in that you can get lots of tracks on a CD - but if anyone's used one of these - what track info does the little display show? If it doesn't show track name then if she has a CD with 180-odd tracks on it's going to be hard to know what's on there.
Has anyone used one of these, and how did you find it?
Thanks ever so...

MP3-playing CD players have been common for years, although it's only relatively recently that they've started to appear as original equipment.
I can't speak for what comes with the Meriva, but my Sony player treats the folders (directories) on the disc as if they were albums in a CD changer. As far as I can remember without switching it on, it'll display the file name, the ID3 info (track title embedded in the file), or the track number. I like to keep things simple by prefixing each file name with a two digit number. That way the tracks get played in the correct order.

I use exactly the same strategy as welliesorter with my cheapo Aiwa player, folder for each album & two digit number prefix for each track therein. Whether your MP3s have ID3 tags or not will depend on their source; it isn't difficult to add them after the fact, but rather tedious.
I can't find the right audio manual on Vx's web site to see if the meriva MP3 palyer supports ID3 tagging, but I would hope so for the price!

My £75 Panasonic MP3/CD player understands directories and ID3 tags perfectly happily. Think there is a limit to the number of files on one CD, might be 256.
MP3 at 128kbits compresses to about 1Mb/min, so a 700Mb CDR will hold 700 mins / 12-15 albums.

If you want to make sure that mp3 tracks are well organised and named as you wish, then a very useful piece of software is TDT - Tag Database Tool.
It's intended for iRiver owners for sorting the database for their mp3 players, but it will also rename and organise all tracks in a specified system of directories in any way that you wish. I use it all the time, it's a bit slow once you get up to 30 Gb + of tracks, but works very well.
