Received compensation from Vauxhall - maff257
I recently wrote a letter to Vauxhall to complain about all the problems I've had with my SXi. Received a reply earlier in the week with a voucher worth £1000 off a new or Network Q car which is valid until March 2008! Now I'm not sure what to do, do I trade my car in now for a new or used car or do I wait until closer to 2008? My car has been valued at £8000 if I trade it in and obviously it will depreciate more by 2008. Anyone any advice?

Go for it, if you don't like your old car anymore then just get shot and get one that you'll hopefully have some faith in!

And big thumbs up to Vauxhall for what sounds like a generous offer.

They sell you a bad car and then offer you some money off to buy another one. Am I crazy or does this sound a bad deal to anyone else ?

Negotiate the deal and hand the voucher over as part payment at the last minute in lieu of cash, this so they cannot give you a lesser deal because you are using a voucher.

I agree, this is your best possible strategy, I wish I'd thought of it !

If you're a glutton for punishment then go for it....

If you do decide to use the voucher, I would negotiate the best deal possible before revealing you have the voucher. Dealers will no doubt try and use the voucher to their advantage and give you less of a trade in/discount if they know you've got it.

If its a Network Q car, it doesn't have to be a Vauxhall?

Read your voucher carefully I bet it says.....

"only valid on the full list price of the car" or something like that...

In effect its the same discount you would get from a dealer anyway, and in effect is not worth the paper its printed on.

If this is the case then only discuss the cost to change, rather than negotiating a discount or trade in value. The full list price does not apply then as you have not negotiated that down. Then hit them with the voucher as part of the payment.
