Was buying tyres on Saturday, and preceding customer had an '03 plate Vectra in. Staff could not remove his front nearside wheel. They were hitting the tyre vigorously with a rubber mallet, but refused to hit the wheel itself (good call) Just a gentle reminder that it is a good idea to discover this sort of problem at a time of your choosing rather than on the hard shoulder when it's dark and wet...

Every chance the Vectra had a full service record - everything carried out to the letter.

Pity it only required visual inspections - no need to remove wheels, to check brakes - as far as the schedule is concerned!!Wheels probably never been off the car since it was built!!

I've got 17" alloys on my 53 Vectra and three of them have come off no bother so far. The first service at 20k/2 years (petrol) is only a 'visual inspection' of the brakes

Three of the alloys on my 16 months old Focus were corroded on when I bought it. The local dealer removed them and applied copper grease to the mating faces and spigot diameters. It's one of the first things I do with any car I buy which has alloys.

Dave - Hasn't a) needed a new tyre or b) had a puncture - see my previous thread on this...

Not sure if they took the wheels off for the second Ecoflex service (40k/4 years - petrol) I had done about a month ago or whether that was a visual inspection also.
