Hi,
Anyone got any views on the above car. I currently run a Seat Leon 110 tdi, which is a good car, but recently had a corolla 1.4 petrol for a loan while my own was being serviced.
I was mightily impressed with the way the car was put together - this was a car with 98k on it, and not a squeak or rattle anywhere!
Anyhow, I'm now considering buying the 1.4 D4D version, and want to know what other people think of it. Its rated at 89bhp, is this low by todays standards?
Has anyone tried a tuning box on a D4D engine - they are to be got on ebay - would this make it a better drive?
I would assume reliability and resale would be strong on these cars - what do others think?

From www.Toyota.co.uk: The 1.4 litre turbocharged D-4D engine* - 89 bhp, maximum torque 190 Nm, maximum speed 112 mph, acceleration to 62 mph 13.3 seconds, fuel economy on the combined cycle 58.9 mpg, emissions 128 g/km.
Looks quite good on paper. No ball of fire, but it sounds like perfectly adequate performance, and rather good fuel economy. Why not take one a test-drive?

This extract taken from the CBCB on this site:
Feedback on 1.4 D-4D MMT from reader Mike Brunt: "Takes some getting used to but well worth learning. More involving and rewarding to drive than a hydraulic auto. Only the 1 to 2 and 2 to 1 changes are really noticeable. Manual mode is good too for example in hilly country, or earlier up-shifts for extra mpg., or later up-shifts so hitting the revs you recommend when running-in. I haven't had chance to experiment with the 'ES' (sport) setting so far." Mike averages 56mpg.
This is obviously for an auto, but thats great mpg by any standards!

I have had a 2 litre Corolla since March - bought new. The dealer has been unable to eliminate rattles despite numerous attempts (under warranty) I would never have another Toyota.

Wife runs a 1.4VVT as a co. car. Gets around 40MPG driven quite hard, reasonably quick for what it is. No rattles just a knackered synchro on 2nd gear, mediocre dealer & a very uncomfortable seat. Very light controls as well, but fine as a shopping car, would I have one? NO!
Would I buy a diesel no as the economy can't be massively greater (driven the same way) as the petrol.

I've done a few miles in the 1.4 D4D Corolla and whilst it's not the quickest car on the market it wasn't bad. I would avoid the MMT version though.
