Any body have any experience of these companies?

Just got into the carpark in time to see someone bash my car with their door as they got out, so fortunately was able to get her name/phone number etc although her manner suggested that I ought to just forget it

Damage is a 15 x 10 mm chip, no dent but chipped down to the metal. Right on the wheelarch - car is silver BMW 3 series.

Both above companies quote £80 or £85 + VAT over the phone
which seems reasonable to me.............I told the lady who damaged the car I would get the cheapest quote and ring her with it, hopefully she finds it reasonable but maybe she is expecting me to say someone will touch it in for a tenner?

Good experience with Chips Away in St Albans, but as a franchised operation the standard of work does vary from place to place and it's worth checking with local car dealers to find out who they use or would not use.

good point as in any business some are worse than others, the alternative is a good independant bodyshop that knows what they are talking about.

Quite right, every time oldman. As well as sledgehammer wielding ruffians bodyshops have some excellent guys who talk straight, take pride in their work and don't rip you off.

I should have added that the trouble is finding them. And hoping they stay on the good path.

1st time the chap was poor and I called him back.

That was the owner who came 1st time and he sent an employee who fixed it well.

Subsequently he did another touch in job which was big and it has lasted well

The job is only as good as the chap that turns up.

I used an independant SMART guy based fairly local to me (he's in Frodsham, Cheshire) to repair and repaint a little dent in the bonnet of my daughters metallic Black Ibiza. He used to run his own specialist bodyshop but he couldn't make it pay.
Charged £65 and I think it looks pretty good, although he didn't seemed totally thrilled himself! He pointed out where the lacquer layers are blended together on a body crease.
To be honest, I think it looks fine, especially bearing in mind it's not an expensive car. If it bothered me, I could always get the whole bonnet painted, but I've had that done on other cars in the past and they're never the same again.

He repaired and repainted a neighbours car bumper while he was here too, and they were delighted.

We had a guy who did my Dad's previous car's wing retouched (Rover 400), we got in touch with him via my sister who does his VAT books for him.
When he arrived it was young chap who was employed by the guy, he started the job off ok, but half way through the job he had to ring his boss to help him out because he got stuck on somethng, he had came along to help him out.
Overall he (or his boss) did an excellent job, if not the metallic paint looked slightly dimmer then the rest of the paintwork.
