When buying a new car, will the dealer discount options or is he making his margin on them (and not the base car)? Or as ever does "it depend"?
What did you find when buying your new car?
Cheers as ever for the views

When you see some of the sky high prices, on the options list, it's surprising anyone buys any of them!
The way Mrs V did it for her Mx5, was to work out the items she wanted & negotiated an 'all in' price with the dealer. Becuase she knew what she had in mind, we'd done our homework on best price for the car, so really did have an idea, of when we were down to the lowest total cost.
Don't be tempted with whatever the dealer offers as an 'extra' it might not be worth anything to you - or him!!
& don't forget you can over spec a car & increase it's cost, to near the next factory spec, model is anyway!!

Certain options have no value at all and some are far more valuable than the cost.
It all depends on the car, on some Auto and Leather are required or you will never sell the beast again.
The dealer should discount the entire car, not base price only.

Yes you can get discount on the options and extra's. Sometimes when the dealer is not keen to give discount off the vehicle you can push for free extra's that cost little to the dealer but if you were to buy them would cost you an arm and a leg.
