No CBT - ffidrac {P}
I have a mate who has had a provisional driving license (bike entitlement) since 'years ago'.
He has recently bought a new bike after being off the road for some years and has not taken a CBT test, he says that as he had his license so long ago and for such a long time he does not need to take CBT.

Can someone clarify please as I think that he requires CBT ticket before riding?

Thanks

Unless it's a moped (50cc, 30mph max), and he passed his car test before Feb 2001, he will have to take a CBT.

There are no other exceptions that I know of - but bike licensing is a minefield and is tinkered with regularly, so it's pretty unwise to just assume it's OK.

As i understand it provisional entilment added on to a car licence only lasts six months then it has to be renewed.

I think you will find that he needs to take a CBT or he will be riding it illegally.

CBT covers more than the ability to just ride a bike e.g. the right markings to look for on helmets. I'd say it would be a useful learning experience to spend a few hours with an instructor who spends his working life in current traffic conditions.

He needs one. SWMBO had to do her CBT and has held full car licence and consequently a prov. bike licence since 1980.
