Got a 1995 Audi 80 TDI, but there seems to be a problem when you try and rev the engine above 2500 RPM.... When the Turbo kicks in its not a constant increase, Instead it pulses
Anybody got any idea why this is happening ?
Tried all the connections and pipes to the turbo and they seem fine.

Is this a common fault ?
Is there anyway of checking the Mass meter before going to buy a new one ?

Don't automatically blame the maf:
When my '94 Passat 90bhp TDi (very similar engine to the Audi80) developed a surging under load (like fuel starvation), my VW dealer changed the maf, but the symptoms remained. Took it back, they said they couldn't reproduce the problem so I took the Service Manager out there and then to demonstrate the surging; without prompting he refunded the full cost...
(There were no fault codes logged in my ecu, but a similar (unresolved) problem in the Dr Diesel column in Diesel Car talked about an 'excess pressure' fault. Eventually my dealer, now with another car with the same problem, traced the problem to a faulty wastegate controller - a cruciform device on the engine bulkhead.)
