HI
I am looking at getting a new car. The dealer is offering lower finance if I sign up today and have the car registered today..so it will be a december 05 car . Is there any advantage in having the car registered in january as an 06 car from the resale point of view
thanks

The difference will be very very minimal, it will be on a 55 plate either way so the vast majority of people will not be bothered either way.
It sounds like the dealer is desperate to register units today - so push him not only for lower finance rate but also a bit more discount off the car as well. If he's not willing to discount further try for free accessories like mats and that sort of thing.
He needs to sell the car a lot more than you need to buy it!

Thanks that sounds like the best way to play it.seems like they have some target or other to get before year end!

The bonus per car will probably be worth £750 so aim for £500 imo.

when you come to trade it in it will show in glasses/black book as an 05 car so you WILL get offered less and if you sold it privatly the same would apply. It may be a physocological thing but it will still be seen as a year older in peoples eyes,so make sure the discount to fill the dealers end of year sales target IS enough to make you proceed.

Don't they go by the build date rather than the rego date? If it is build date then you would have to wait several months into 06 before the 06 built cars trickle through to the dealers.

You go by the v5 or hpi report and value it accordingly, think of it this way in january 2007 its a 3 year old car if you look at it from a buying view and as a leverage to buy it cheaply.

Personaly I reckon that the one month will make very little difference, as has already been said, it is still a 55 plate either way, and the public generally haven't seemed that bothered by the year, just the plate.

How can a car, which was new in December 2005, be considered to be a 3 year old car in January 2007? Do we have a case of accelerated aging here?
