rover 111i can I just change pipe over - penguin
Some of you may remember my other thread about my rover 111i being noisy, and having no go and I finally got time and took it into the garage this morning and the front pipe has gone (theres a big hole in it). I have a friend who has scrapped her 111i and said I can help myself to anything, can the front exhaust pipe just be changed over or does it need to be done professionally?
many thanks
Julie

This should be a straightforward swap.
The front pipe is flanged at both ends.
It would be wise to replace the gaskets at the manifold and catalytic converter joints.

Don't forget to re-connect the lambda sensor in the front pipe!

Thanks for that. I will replace the gaskets. How is the lambda sensor connected?
Thanks

It screws into the front pipe. (It also has a sealing washer)

22mm usually ,they quite often get destroyed being removed so be carefull as they are £40/£100 to replace.

Does the car not work if this gets damaged? Its due its next mot in april and will probably end up being scrapped so I really don't want to spend anything on it. I did think about getting the exhaust bandage thing but don't know if that would work, or whether its just a waste of money????
Thanks

The lambda sensor, in conjunction with the ECU, controls the emissions. Without it the car will fail the MOT and will not run correctly.

Exhaust bandages are rarely effective.

The lambda sensor (oxygen sensor) is to help the engine run as efficiently as possible and also to produce as few emissions as possible. Without it, or if it's faulty, then chances are it won't get through the mot in April as it will fail on emmisions.

Thanks everyone. Hubbys going to change it over later in the week. I'm only getting 70 miles to a tank of petrol so hopefully the petrol consumption will be better when its changed.
thanks again
