I'm looking at buying a 51 registration Focus, however the DVLA and cardatacheck are showing the first registration date as being 25 April 2002, which would make it an 02 plate. The 25 April 2002 date is when the current owner says he bought the car from a contract hire company (with 2000 miles) and the log book appears to show him as the first owner. Is this possible?
Thanks for any help!

Does the V5 say "New at first registration"?

Life is complex; it has real and imaginary parts.

I'm not sure, I'll check it out when I can. How could it not be new at first registration, other than being an import from Jersey, say, as mentioned previously?

September 2001 to March 2002 is a 51 plate, March 2002 to September 2002 is an 02 plate, September 2002 to March 2003 is a 52 plate. Looks like something is amiss here. It could depend when the hire company bought it & when they registered it. I don't know if companies register the car in the drivers name or their own. It could be a Y/51 model on an 02 plate. Either way if in doubt don't buy it.

Is it possible that it's a ex-hire car from somewhere like Jersey and been re-registered?
Either way, plenty of 51/02 plate Foci out there. If you're asking questions, people will ask questions when you come to sell and is it really worth the hassle?
