Fiesta ign lock problem - driller
I wonder if anyone can help me?
I have changed every lock on my '96 (old shape) fiesta and now the ignition lock is sticking so badly I can't drive it anywhere for fear of being stranded.
When I went to remove the old lock, I needed to remove the actual ign swith on the opposite side of the barrel to where the key enters the lock and lo & behold...the key turns the lock every time! Also, if I put a screwdriver into the slot of the switch...the engine turns over & starts.
My question is...If the lock is faulty, why does it turn when not physically connected to the switch assy?
Any and all suggestions/opinions gratefully recieved

Hi needs a new lock and is a common problem on fiestas. If you take care and dont have money for a new lock you can take barrel apart and remove small round rod. Any key will then turn lock but if transponder key car still immobilized so safe.

Yes, this is very common - there have been earlier threads about it. It happened to SWMBO's Fiesta - and left her stranded one night.

Have you tried a new key? Did the trick IIRC with sticking Ford locks on a Fiesta which was posted on here a while back, when Ford wanted new locks on all doors!

For a new lock, try www.gbmparts.co.uk as I've found them cheaper than a dealer (including postage) and they'll build the lock up for you to your code (see www.fordscorpio.co.uk/doorlockbld.htm for combination).

you cant take the roll pin out of a fiesta ignition lock as the chrome cover is a once only fit and is destroyed if you try.If you take the lock out again and look at it, what you find is that as you turn the key the inner part of the lock comes out to make a good fit with the steering lock/ignition switch, this bit wears and sticks (it used to be at 33,000 on mk3 fiesta"s)the best solution is take a good key to your dealer and ask him to copy and make you an ignition barrel from this, this will allow your chipped key to work and will cost approx £40 all in

it is possible to take out the roll pin from the barrel, the tumbler cylinder is held in with a circlip on the back.one word of warning though.once you have taken the pin out any key will operate the lock.

on a mk3 fiesta ignition barrel the tumbler is put in from the front and then the chrome cover is peaned over with a special small machine that does it in one, there is no circlip on the back.
If you said doorlock or boot lock for a mk3 fiesta then you are part right as the boot lock tumbler is indeed held in with a circlip, but the door locks are held in with a plastic/nylon retaining clip,if i had a £1 for every lock set that i have had to change on fiesta"s then my sweety jar would be very full.

I don't want to seem like a told ypu so old man but you can change the ignition barrel on a fiesta. The barrel is in two parts, the inner barrel which holds the tumblers is fits into the back of the barrel and is held in place by a circlip which holds the two parts together.

Bid now to avoid disappointment!

Might be worth checking FINIS code with Ford in case there are two types of lock (one with circlip and one without).

wish i never said you could take rod out now.well it worked on my wifes car and she used it for over a year like it and did it myself as i like tinkering. just go and buy a new lock as we all agree on that one.
