Hi
I have found a buyer for my car and have had permission from the DVLA to swop my personal plate off the car and have received the amended MOT and change of tax disc. The problem is that the DVLA says that it may take 4 to 8 weeks to return the VC5, and that I should not sell or dispose of the car until the document is in my possession. What possible issues might arise if I let the new owner have the car now and deal with the VC5 when it arrives. Needless to say he won't wait 4 - 8 weeks.

Presumably the new owner will be required to obtain a new registration number applicable to its model and orginal registration registration?
My current car had had a personal plate, but it came with the new registration already on and the owner supplied the VC5 at the time (it was acquired through a used car seller friend who has many years' experience in the trade).

PS
Just remembered that a friend who acquired a new car a couple of weeks ago is using it with a temporary standard 55 registration number until his personal number plate can be carried over to it.
He is also waiting for the DVLA...:-)
