Engine frequently cuts out 1995 Micra - Andy Pandy
Hi all!

Am experiencing real problems with my 1995(M)Nissan Micra!

The engine is increasingly cutting out whilst car is being driven, both at low speed and at cruising speed (60 - 70mph).

We get no advance warning of this - speed drops, car loses power, engine cuts out and warning lights (as per initial start up) come on.

Furthermore, it is now failing to restart on several occasions!

Rescue patrols have come out and suggested various potential problems such as distributor, 'points and condensor', mass air flow sensor, fuel pump (though patrol looked at this at all seems to be in order there).

Anybody out there got any words of comfort before I hear back from Nissan workshop tomorrow??!!

Many thanks!

Andy

Instant cutting out of the engine could well be an ignition/distributor fault (all electronic- no points or condensor).I don't think any parts for it can be bought individually (if that is the problem).Complete unit only about £250.Mass air flow sensors are a problem on these but usually do not cause a total cut out situation.

First step is to take off every connector you can find in the engine compartment apart and then put back together again just to make sure all the connectors are firmly seated;I've fixed two cars this way myself.

Andy, did you ever cure this I have been through a shed load of parts trying to fix a 1993 reg with same problem. Mass Air flow/distibutor all temp sensors/Vacuum sensor/fuel Pump /+ relay/fuse all replaced and Engine fuel inject relay to no avail. Worse in hot weather & usually when engine working temp reached, tried running with fuel cap loose suspected blocked breather hose but did not make any difference

it was covered a few weeks ago maggie and i think the consensus was the coolent temperature switch which was causing overfueling,im sure you can flash the codes on 93 micras with a safety pin have you done that?post the code and i will look it up for you or you could google it..ps think andy pandy was put back in his box as he aint been seen for 6 months ;-)
