hi.
just a quick query - my exhaust started to blow today. Just wondered where i stood as rgds taking to dealer etc. i only bought the car in june and have not even had it 3 months yet, i have done 2000 miles, car has done total 31000. it is a 1.2 punto dynamic petrol.
the fiat dealer has offered to replace the part at cost, is this ok do you think? Or should i ask for more etc????
thanks in advance

When alls said and done its a 3 yo car, and having covered average to low miles it has probably had a life of short runs from cold. The cost price offer from the dealer (Fiat agent?) seems fair, but it wouldnt hurt to get some more qoutes before saying yes.

I have a 2001 1.2 Punto and had to replace the system last year. It developed a large hole in the back silencer (you may notice that all Puntos have a small hole as standard in the forward edge of the rear silencer to allow moisture to drain out and gives a very slight blowing noise).
I went to a very well known tyre and exhaust centre and due to it being the original system there is no joint and they had to replace it all up to the catalyst near the front of the car costing £195. The good thing is that the new system is in separate sections so you can replace just the broken part next time round.

You're lucky. I would have thought they'd have classed it as a fair wear and tear item and not even offered to replace it at cost.

Their cost price will be far in excess of the price you pay at a discount exhaust depot, shop around before you pay the agents

June to now <3 months.
So the part was faulty when you bought it.
Ask for it to be replaced foc.

i can see what your saying, but it was mot,d june 21st

Would think its a goodwill gesture of garage,Most warranties dont include exhaust. as its a wear and tear item/as brake pads shoes and discs and tyres,Though I would not want to pay the labour rates of M/D.try getting a comparison between cost from M/D and other fast fit`s.As ff may be cheaper?

Which only proves it was roadworthy on that day.
www.motuk.co.uk/mot_testing.htm
"The test certificate relates only to the condition of the testable items at the time of the test and should not be regarded as evidence of their condition at any other time; nor should it be accepted as evidence of the general mechanical condition of the vehicle."

I can second that.
I remember going with Dad to get his 405 MOT'd in Liverpool years and years ago. On the way home, at the Rocket, what happened? Yep - the clutch cable snapped!
Oh how I laughed.
