Hi, just put a desposit on a brand new Mazda6(facelift), what's the process? Its going to be registered in my name but who long before that's done and the number plates are put on? I've never done this before, only every brought used. Any advice?
I am going to check over it at the dealer when its trailed to them in the week, I'll check for damage, any thing else?
Cheers for any help and advice.

you dont worry about any of it. The dealer gives you a collection date, you go there at that time, and its all taxed. plates on, and registered in your name. You only need to arrange insurance.
you only need to check it at collection time.

Facelifted '6' - great choice ! New box & additional soundproofing = no more dreadful noise at motorway speeds.

I am the only Pole over here.

all I had to do for my 6 was pick the colour and the registration..they did everything else..excellent choice..owned one for nearly a year..its been back once! for a slight rattle in the boot.....as for noise..no noisier than a Mondeo..not as quiet as vectra...no real issue with wind noise at speed, road noise claim is apparently due to the Turanzas...but hey no big deal for such a good looking, quality motor :-)...

Hi, thanks for all info. I am poping down to "check" it over and test drive it cos I have only driven the first version. Expect there won't be a big change but want to be sure. I hope the number plate is put on straight!

The dealer will only need your insurance certificate or cover note to tax the car. Your broker or ins co will fax it to them.
Otherwise all you need to do is pay! Make sure you know what they want. Many dealres will not accept a bank draft now and will want a personal cheque to clear first.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

J1mbo - congrats on fine choice, can we ask how good a deal you did??
Recently HJ posted about substantial discounts on old model, wondered how genenrous Mazda are on the new one!!

or Switch will do. Amazing isn't it, but true. Just ring your bank first to tell them you're going to do it, they'll double check with you when the transaction goes through.

worth noting that Switch only allows max of £10K per day to be transferred out - at least that's what HSBC told me - so for larger amounts allow over 2 days etc

Best pay with CREDIT card - not debit - one that offers cash back rewards scheme!!

Best pay with CREDIT card - not debit - one that offers cash back rewards scheme!!
The problem with this is that most dealers now charge for using a credit card - somewhere in the region of 2% or 3% so that 1% cash back actually ends up costing you money!
I've processed many a transaction like this - debit card is the easiest way for the customer and the dealer. Usually you have to contact the authorisation centre and get the customer to answer a couple of standard security question and it goes straight through. I've never had a problem with HSBC cards having a limit, i think the most i've put through on one transaction was about £45k for a landcruiser.

Yep!
Agree the added surcharge fee - but depends how much the dealer wants to deal!!
Mrs V bought her Mx5 on plastic, so a couple of hundred £$£$ came back, WITHOUT paying anything extra.
She introduced the 'buy now' gambit, when she'd gone as far as she thought, on the deal!!
Plus, of course, added consumer rights, by buying this way, too!

I paid most of the deposit with CC on the Van I bought new last year.
At £3k the .5% meant £15 and I had time to sort the finances out to pay the CC company back.
No dealer surcharge, despite the good price.

went to buy wifes car using our debit card and the sales rep almost had a fit - " you told me it was a switch card. Its a visa debit, i cant do that, we'll get charged!"
he even asked me if i had a different card we could use. Of course, i always have several current accounts with over 7k in them! My bank has changed from switch to visa debit, but he thought it was a credit card. I told him to put it through and if there was a problem let me know and i would pay the balance (and get it back from the bank!!!). He never called back.
His face was a picture at the time though.

A classic example of how a little knowledge can be fatal! It's not that hard to tell the difference between Visa Debit and Visa Credit, I guess he mustn't come across these very often.

If you're buying from a Mazda dealer then you should get 7 days driveaway insurance. You will get 7 days cover from Mazda Insurance just so they can give you a quote. You can then arrange cover with them or another insurer of your choice within 7 days.
Good choice of car - I'm delighted with my 6.
Purchasing from my Mazda dealer was a pleasure - they did the hand-over better than any other dealer I've ever dealt with.
