I looked into doing just this about 6 months ago.
It's not cheap!
In the end I went for a portable DVD with two screens from Currys. It's made by Venturer (I think) and is about £250 now.
Kids love it (and so do we on long journeys!)

Woolworths have a venturer DVD player complete with car kit for 129.99. One screen but two headphone sockets.

Makro have a twin screen in-car dvd player (centurion) on offer this week at £99.99 plus VAT. Screens are 7" and it has a remote. Looks like great value.

I don't think I would like a DVD embedded in a head rest that was not fitted professionally. 1 pound of plastic in an accident in just the right place to do some serious damage.
Would probably count as an in insurance modification too.
Get a portable and make sure its secured very well.

We bought the Makro system a few months ago when it was closer to £200 (grrrr!)
It's excellent, the kids love it, and it's quick to remove the screens to store out of sight. The cabling can be a bit messy, but that has been sorted with Velcro.

We bought a 9" screen Venturer from Argos for £165 and find that fixing that between the front seats gives both kids a good view. It also means its not "in thier face2 in event of a shunt. Its a very neat unit - much like a small laptop and easily removed or installed in less than a minute. The dual screen ones I looked at all seemed to have relatively bulky main units and looked like they had to be semi-permanently installed so attracting theft when parked up. Incidentally they are great for passing long journeys in harmony, my teenagers love it.
