They are, in fact, integrated into the door mirrors.

BH, when did you last own a car with wing mirrors? I had a 1973 Escort with just the one on the drivers side wing, every car since then has had door mirrors

My 1973 Mk1 (facelift) Capri had a very nice set of rakish wing mirrors. They were designed for the earlier Ford capri, the early 1960's one
Why did we move to door mirrors and the subsequent blind spot?
I knwow it was a euro thing but why?

Never owned a car with wing mirrors. By the late 60's it was trendy to have the mirror on the doors. I remember the Paddy Hopkirk brand made them popular. The easy adjustment of a door mirror swung the balance for me and I fitted them to several cars.

Probably connected with their ability to disembowel a pedestrian in what may have otherwise been a fairly low impact accident?

I remember when the door mounted mirrors were first introduced, I thought it was a retrograde step. It seemed to me that when you wanted a quick glance prior to overtaking, you actually had to move your head and take your eyes off the road to look in the door mirror. To check in the wing mirror was a simple eye movement>

Damn site easier to adjust door mirrors though, and can be done without another person standing at the end of the wings to do so ;o)

DD, Agree about aligning the mirrors requiring a helper, but on the other hand we didnt find the need to alter them between drivers as the head didnt need to be turned...just avert the gaze and you could see in the mirror. This was very useful as Mrs StarGazer is of a very different height and we have to adjust door mounted mirrors every time we swap drivers.
