My son is about to buy a Mondeo Y-plate Tddi. Does this have chain or belt-driven cam? If the latter what is the recommended mileage/age for replacement please? Many thanks.

All the diesel engines fitted to the Mk3 Mondeo are chain driven, coming to think of it so are the petrols.
The chain should last the life of the engine with regular oil changes.

Thanks Quinny, although in my ignorance I thought that the Tdci and not the Tddi was a Mk3 - or have I got that wrong?

New Mondeo introduced in late 2000 "X" plate, diesel was a new 16v 2.0 litre Direct Injection (TDDi = Turbo Diesel Direct Injection) engine 115 ps & 280nm torque, chain cam.
In late 2001 "51" plate the TDCi was introduced, same basic engine though with more advanced Common Rail fuel injection (TDCi = Turbo Diesel Commonrail Injection) 130 ps & 350nm torque, the TDDI and TDCi were both produced together for approx 6 - 9 months when a 115 ps / 280 nm TDCi variant was introduced.
Regards.
