Arrggghh bird droppings! - Twizit
Brand new car picked up yesterday. Wake up this morning and noticed what looks like bird p** on the bonnet - you know the splat near the top and a few nice trails down towards the bumper...

Went out straight away to clean it off and would it shift? No way. Have tried all sorts, including so called specialist bird p** cleaners! It ain't shifting.

Car was parked at night time so as all birds were sleeping it could only have been "dropped" at dawn - I can't believe it could have etched itself in a matter of 3 hours max!

Any suggestions? I've tried searching for this but have already tried all suggested methods. I'm wondering about a dab of white spirit but am seriously worried about damaging paint work further. It's black pearl finish for what it's worth.

Arghh - HELP please!!

Take one piece of kitchen roll, soak and leave on the area in question. Come back in 10 - 15 minutes and it should come off easily.

I keep baby wetwipes in the car, they're very useful for removing (fresh) bird mess

Yup!! I was hedging my bets against the swear detector!

Is it really bird poo? Well that's what I was thinking when it wouldn't shift.

That said after a bucket load of rain last night it appears to have shifted the white stuff - although that could be just because it was still wet when I left this morning - have to wait for an update from SWMBO once it's dried off.

There was still an area of "matt" though - either it's just gone through the wax or worst case I guess it's eaten into the laquer layer. I guess I'll try it with some Autoglym (super resin I believe comes recommended??) to see if it will buff up again.

I'll update later, in the meantime any other thoughts more than welcome....!

Doh - it's still there.

Off to the bodyshop this afternoon to see what they can do with it....

Very annoying really - I sympathise, however unless there's something wrong with the paint or the stuff in question is not bird droppings I don't see there's much you can do unless you can get some sort of additional paint protection applied to the entire car. It'll cost you a fortune to have 'cosmetic work' done every time a bird makes a deposit. The same thing happened on a close relative's brand new dark metallic blue Passat - after the initial shock and frustration subsided he gave up trying to fight the inevitable and wound up with a car which looked like it had a bad case of automotive acne!
I believe it's a common problem on modern cars (change of paint specification??) so I'm sure many people out there will be interested if you find a solution. Good luck.

I sympathise mate, I reckon the only way to protect against it is to polish regularly with AG Super Resin (or similar) and then top off with something like AG Extra Gloss.

Having seen how few of the new cars actually got properly polished at the garage I last worked at I would now polish any brand new car soon after getting it, although even I would have been caught out by that one!

As far as Diamondbrite is concerned, I reckon it won't offer much if any more protection than two doses of Autoglym.

Good luck getting it sorted.

A shotgun might solve this problem
