Is the following unusual?
A parking ticket issued at 0115 in London, in a very very quiet wide residential street that is well away from any nightlife.?
The restriction was known. It was a fare cop but more than a little unexpected.
It is a resident parking area. In a cul de sac with a small length of double yellow about 10 feet between nose in parking area.
The usual thoughts apply. Surely there are more urgent areas to be patrolled?

Like the zig-zag lines either side of zebra crossings? People in villages near me seem to think that because these are not double yellow lined, they are OK to park on - you can see them every morning trying to squeeze onto them while nipping into shops for papers, ciggies etc..

Not clear whether the ticket was for the yellow line or a resident bay "offence". If I were a resident and found "my" bay occupied without a permit I'd regard enforcement as a priority!

I agree with your thoughts. It was a yellow line offence. All resident places full.
I have often parked for a a short while in the same place but fortunately will not need to after this month.

A few years ago I witnessed a local solicitor's unattended car being ticketed in similar circumstances - parked outside his office, on double yellows in what is a very quiet road at 2230.
Admittedly he did used to do this most evenings so was asking for it.
I'd love to have seen his face when he came back to the car.

A family friend used to run a well-to-do Gentlemen's outfitters in Cheltenham, and regularly parked his 911 on the double yellows outside. He reckoned the parking fines were good value for the piece of mind and convenience of being able to park outside the shop, together with the absence of car park door dings and cost of daily ticket!
The fact that he was breaking the law was regarded by him as a total irrelevance!
