I've tried the advert board on here, and the local paper, without success. It's a good car, and nothing wrong with it, but I've not had any form of contact whatsoever. I thought the price was fair, though I would cut it a bit if necessary. I know what the "Black book" trade in price is though, and we're not too far off that.
Next stop Ebay, though I am wary about the whole auction thing, and want to steer a happy line between getting the car sold and getting rid of it for pennies. There's no point me selling it for sixpence.
Am I asking too much, or is it jsut that no-one wants to buy a cheap car any more?

Give us the run-down on what it is and all its vital statistics - I'm sure much advice on where to sell it will be forthcoming.

Many new and used car dealers will buy a car from you even if you are not considering purchasing one from them - only snag is that it may not be as much as selling privately.
Another method, which I used once, is to let a dealer sell it on your behalf; the owner guaranteed a minimum price which was very acceptable, eventually closed a deal for it and sent a cheque for the sum promised.
But be very aware of companies who might telephone offering to sell a car which you have advertised; some of these are scams, expensive and those concerned have been known to record a conversation and edit the tape to imply you agreed to their proposal.

Try AutoTrader online . I sold my last car (Civic) this way and got exactly the price I wanted .

Autotrader? You'll also get a good idea of what price to pitch it at.

I just sold mine last week. My method was to give the car a very good clean and polish and then to drive it around with For Sale signs stuck in the back window. Make sure you leave it parked where there are lots of people going by it. Also leave it parked outside your house. People know you, they see the car and someone will contact you about it. It might take a few weeks but you will get some interest provided the car is well presented and value for money.

I'd agree with previous posts: Autotrader Online.
Put a fiesta on there Thursday night, at a reasonable price, and had 12 phonecalls, and a backlog of viewings requested before it was sold on the Sunday for full asking price. Only drawback was around another 60 calls about it in the next two weeks.

Knock 25% off your asking price, and offer 25% less than the asking price on the next one, and remember just how many cars are for sale at any one time.
Just think how many Focus' are for sale today - we're talking thousands and most (private) sellers will end up taking less to get rid of the hassle factor - like you, dare I say. Especially those selling privately and getting a compant Beemer instead.

I've sold 2 cars in last year through Loot www.loot.com/
You don't need a photo and it's free!

After checking on autotrader your price seems in line with others of similar spec. Can't suggest anything more than placing ad on there and pricing it at least £100-£150 less than the cheapest one already advertised.

Thanks for all your advice - it's gone on Autotrader - there's a deal at the moment for 2 weeks in the mag and 3 on the website. I've put it on at £1300, so we'll see what happens. If the worst comes to the worst, I could always p/x it, but as I may want to buy privately, that option may not be open to me.

Thanks to all who suggested the Autotrader route. I've now (at last) sold the car for £1100, so two very happy people there. Slightly interestingly, I just missed the print deadline for last week, but it went on the website immediately. There were no calls for the 7 days it was on the website, but as soon as the mag came out, there were 3 in 24 hours. Maybe everyone up here prefers old technology...
