My mother is wanting one of the new Golf GTI's. Initially she had been told that the DSG gearbox was worth the extra money, but the VW dealership have dissuaded her from having it. They (nor any other dealership for that matter) seem to have a DSG version available to try. Does anyone have positive or negative feedback about the DSG system?
Also, the dealership have offered to order the car with delivery of 4 months. There are naturally no discounts and all extras are being paid for. Can't believe that rear electric windows are a cost option on this car! What extras are worth getting? Is there any likelihood that in 4 months time she could get a better deal, or should she go for the brand new car?
Thanks for your help.

My only experience with the DSG box is in a 2.0 TDi Audi and it transforms the car. The 6 speed manual on this car needs constant changes and it became tiresome. If you want a petrol DSG experience go to your local Audi dealer and borrow either an A3 3.2 or a TT 3.2.

Well they are certainly available to test drive. I test drove the Golf GTi DSG at Citygate Colindale in early February.
It's true that most dealers are not giving discounts on Golf GTi's at the moment but reading internet forums on the subject, it would seem that there are a few that are...
I have ordered a Golf GTi from www.dsgauto.com I saw there advert on HJ's column on the right hand side ->
The discount from dsgauto works out to be about 7.5% I ordered on February 7th and my current ETA is April.
