Car Valuation - MuttleyMcLad
1998 (S) Peugeot 306 1.9 Turbo Diesel,Diablo Red, Meridian Estate.pas, rcl, a/c. One careful lady owner (my nan).Genuine 28k miles, Full Peugeot service history, like new. She was wondering what is the most she can get from a private sale?

Any ideas?

Glass's top book p/x valuation is £2,900 or so.

My first thought was £3,295 and there's one with 42k on it in the Trader for £3,250, so that would be about right. There aren't many low mileage diesels from private sellers, so it's hard to get a spread of values, but dealers seem to want in the low £3ks for these, with sensible mileages (but higher than your Nan's).

If she's in no particular hurry to sell she might like to go as high as £3,795 - but personally that seems a little optimistic and of course there are advertising costs, etc., to think of.

The car will probably need an age-related cam belt, if this hasn't been done, by the way, if you want to be cautious.

Try 3.2 but expect as low as 2.7, 2.8 - it's slow out there at the moment and a private sale with no warranty won't match trade.
