Can ahyone advise?
A few months ago I saw a press article re a device to attach to a hose , which when used on the final rinse would leave your car spot and scale free. I was interested, as the water around here ( near Oxford) is vile.
This is ionicsystems.com/cars/index
Trouble is it looks as though it could cost £1-2 per wash , so I haven't bought one .
However a couple of weeks ago in a Sainsburys filling station shop they were doing a promo on what seems to be a similar thing ( as a gun to click on to the hose) made by Flash ( as in the floor cleaner advertised bu that smug git who used to be in Brushstrokes [Karl Howman according to Helicopter. M.]).It was £14.99 but it gave no idea as to how many washes you might get .
Any experience?

(/smug git mode)If it's very successful for many years it may eventually be iconic, but I think that it is currently only ionic. (/smug git mode off)

Smug Git Mode On.

Do you have to have a column change to use it?

But seriously, now. Years ago I had experience with water softening machines. These took out the calcium compounds in the water by ionic exchange. The trouble is that the raw material they worked on was salt. So the water that was produced was certainly soft, and had no calcium carbonate in it, but did have sodium chloride. Would this be an issue when washing a car? Does this new system work on the same principle? Enquiring minds want to know.

I investigated this once for window cleaning, The water in this company's system is run through a reverse osmosis system. In essence, this takes the volume of dissolved solids down into the region of 0-5 parts per million. This means that what you'd be using to wash your car would be as near as dammit distilled water. Thus, providing you used enough, you could wash off the dirt from your car and there would be NO residue; no leather needed.

You'll see it more and more in window cleaning as the new HSE/EU rules on working at heights is enforced. Either that, or all window cleaners will go out of business. With this stuff, you wash with a brush on a long pole. It works because no rinsing is required. It's pretty effective on windows, so should be on cars. Expensive, though.

Do a google search for some user reviews if your thinking of giving it a try youself!!!
some people dont sound very impressed?

The softeners I mentioned above were to condition the water before use by a reverse osmosis system that purified water to feed a renal dialysis machine in a person's home. The membranes in the reverse osmosis units didn't like hard water. The softener removed the calcium, which was bad, but substituted sodium, which the reverse osmosis unit could handle. I wonder how effective the reverse osmosis units would be in this application, when they are presented with hard water. Our RO units also needed periodic maintenance and cleaning, though this might not be so necessary for car or window cleaning.
I also used RO water to fill my car cooling system (along with corrosion inhibiter) when putting it into storage. When I reactivated the car over five years later, the system was in perfect condition, with no corrosion. At this point, though, I did change the fluid.

Re: Flash car clean

You'll soon be able to use Flash on your car (but not the floor, kitchen or bath cleaner)..:-)
