Hello everyone, my sister has a Nissan Micra 1.3LX, from 1994, and it judders whilst pulling away from a junction. When we had a diagnostic check done on the car, we have been told the problem is the air flow meter, but a different garage did a diagnostic check and said it was the throttle body, please could someone help, as we cant keep paying £35 for diagnostic checks. Many thanks in advance.

I forgot to say, how do you change the throttle body?

It will be the classic throttle body problem. Its easy to change - just a few bolts and cable and connector to swap over.
BBA-Reman supply recon throttle bodies on a 'sale or return' basis so that you check it solves the problem before buying.

Hi Aprillia. Is the problem with K11 TBs due to dry joints? There is a website run by an Australian K11 enthusiast who claims re-soldering a few joints is all that's required. The instructions are on his site with pictures. Seems quite straightforward and saves £££s if it works.
Any thoughts?
|
I really don't know. I had assumed it was due to contamination, but dry or fractured joints is a possibility.
If anyone has a duff one they want to send me to look at (I have a small electronics workshop with top-notch soldering, test and measurement kit) then I'll have a look at it and attempt a repair FOC. All I'd want is return postage.
Do you have a link to the Aussie website?
|
The website is www.micra.com.au/ . It's very much a 'young lad's racer' type affair, like the equivalent UK Micra website, so I take any technical 'advice' I read on such sites with a big pinch of salt, as I have read some howlers about basic maintenance procedures on these sites...
Anyway, the link to the PDF file is www.studior7.com/Resoldering_CG13DE_ThrottleBody.p...f
If the file disappears soon I can email it to anyone who wants it.

OK, I've read this and it looks dead simple.
If anyone has a faulty throttle body they want me to reflow the joints on then I'm happy to do it for the cost of the return postage.
|
Aprilia, you can have my Micras throttle body, but i dont know how much postage to you, and then postage back to me would be?
|
Before you send it you could weigh it on some kitchen scales (metric) and then look on the Royal Mail website (www.royalmail.com) - it gives prices for parcel post for all weights.
Add a little bit on for the weight of the packaging - a large Jiffy bag should do it and I'll return it in same. Be interesting to see if it fixes it......
If you give me an e-mail address then I'll send my address details to you.

A generous offer there Aprilia. See how it goes -- you might want to start doing more of these, quite a lucrative little sideline perhaps!
Please keep us updated on the results.
Just an aside, roughly what percentage of K11 Micras would you estimate have had TB problems? It seems very common but the only thing that really goes wrong on these cars.

Most of the Nissan Micras in scrapyards/salvage yards in the sunderland area (where the cars are built) have this problem. I have often seen Micras with TB trouble in scrappies going for around £50-£100, and some even have mot left.

From what I have seen I would think most K11 Micras fall victim to this problem sooner or later.
As to it being a lucrative sideline - well, I've got bigger fish to fry at the moment - but always interested to 'play' with automotive electronics.
A few years back I did quite a lot of business repairing instrument pods from E32/34 BMW's (replacing capacitors on the PCB). Some places were charging £120 for this job! I did them for £30 a go, so got loads of business from local garages who then charged £120 to their customer!!

Hi, my wife's 1994 1.0 Micra is showing similar symptoms and was wondering if the resoldering fixed the problem?
