Hello, I am new to this site but here goes.
My wife has an R reg V40. The indicators are not working unless you operate them manually. Also the flashing seatbelt light is not visible nor audible.
BUT ! The indicators flash and tick when the Hazard lights are activated. A relay switch comes into mind here. I have swapped a few around at randon but no luck yet.
Any clues ?
Thanks in anticipation.

Very ill advised DO NOT DO THAT you could do a lot of damage.
All Indicators are operated manually, what on earth are you on about. It may be that you have blown a fuse or the stalt switch has failed that is why the Hazards work. Do nothing until you ahve a manual or someone here can help you. Just swopping relays could set fire to the cable harness. YOU ARE LUCK so just leave alone until help comes along, even call the breakdown services but you should not play any more. Regards Peter

I imagine he means that they aren't flashing when the stalk is operated. Therefore the stalk has to be alternately moved between the off position and whichever way he's turning to make them flash on/off. ie, simulate what the indicator relay is supposed to be doing.

I would think that the indicator/hazard flasher relay is faulty. It plugs into the relay/fuse box above the row of fuses & is usually obscured by some metal framework. This is a common failure on this model & I think the relay is only available from Volvo because it performs 3 functions; Indicators/hazards/seatbelt.

I did check the rating , but yes random, in as much as I did not know which relay was causing the problem.
Big thanks here elekie. I did find the culprit. As you said it was tucked away behind a metal support and camouflaged by wiring.
Spot on !
