Highbury from Midlands - misterp
I have a ticket to watch arsenal on a Saturday soon 3pm KO. I shall be travelling south from the Midlands via the M40. I often visit London on a Sunday and know it fairly well but am not familiar with Saturday conditions. Any suggestions for routes/ quickest way in/out or places to leave car / pick up tube. All knowlegde passed on will be really welcome.A qiuck exit to get home in time for a pint /ruby by 7.30 is the priority

Truly a swear filter with attitude! Obviously it supports Spurs.

Lots of people seem to park up in Stevenage (from where I write this missive, there is plenty of parking near the station) and get the train into Finsbury Park (20mins non-stop) (which as you know is within spitting distance of Highbury). I doubt you could drive the distance quicker.

Curses, missed by crucial line "by the M40". If gaining access to the A1 by the A14 is impractical, ignore my advice - unless anyone can think of a similar station in the western suburbs.

M40
M25
Potter's Bar exit
Southgate exit from roundabout(4th exit)
Large car park at Cockfosters Tube (end of Picc Line)
Get off train at Gillespie Road* (as we Spurs supporters prefer to still call it)

Why is it called arsenal? The arsenal from which the Gooners take their name is in Woolwich!

You are coming into London from the North West, arsenal is in the North East, so any car journey near to the ground means a troll round the North Circular (say to Cockfosters, Pic Line has parking but get their early) - Not good on Saturday. Or there is the M25 to Enfield Chase (WAGN main line to Highbury/Islington)

I would suggest Peel off the M40/A40 at Uxbridge for the tube - Plenty of shoppers parking there. 1 Hour Journey from there to arsenal.

All in all as the farmer said - "If I was you I wouldnt start from here (there)"

It's a large cap park at Cockfosters.

Failing that, carry on by road to Arnos Grove. The car parks there are never completely full on Saturday.

I used to go to Wembley quite a few times (I live in the North West) and always found that the easiest way was to leave the motorway and go to Stanmore, park the car near the station and catch the tube.

It also had the benefit of being cheaper than the petrol involved to travel the remaining distance to and from the ground and, as a bonus after a match, I could be back in my car and away up the motorway before most drivers had even got out of the Wembley area.

Same for matches at Aston Villa's ground - parked at Bletchley station and caught one of the frequent trains that stopped near to the ground further down the line.

It may be different these days but it was a case of when public transport did take you where you wanted to go, when you wanted to go...:-)
