I've just tried to start SWMBO's Yaris which has been garaged for the last 3 weeks while we were away over the Xmas/NY break.
It started albeit momentarily then died (I didn't use the throttle) and now though the engine turns over with what seems to be enough vigour to start, the engine simply refuses to start.
Am I missing something obvious - I don't want to call the RAC man unless it's absolutely necessary....
TIA.

May be flooded. This happened to my 1.3 yaris once, after it was briefly started and stopped (to move it from one driveway to another).
The instructions for fixing are in the manual. It's as you would expect - hold foot to the floor and start cranking. What's surprising is how long it takes to clear - the manual says to do it for 30 seconds at a time. It took a couple of goes of around 15 secs each to get mine to start (I couldn't bring myself to keep it cranking for a full 30 seconds).

Thanks - will the fact that I've left it for almost 24hrs make any difference - or should I still go through the "flood" procedure?

Don't know the Yaris, but if it's anything like the Micra then it will stay flooded indefinitely, so yes, try the above procedure.

I don't think it will make any difference that it's been sitting for 24 hours, but presumably it won't do any harm to try starting it normally first, and then try the flood procedure if it's still not working.
BTW If you don't have access to the instruction manual let me know and I'll post the relevant section.
